Project Description

Join the RCAH Alumni Council at Allen Neighborhood Center (ANC) GardenHouse and Edible Park on Saturday, October 15, 2022!

Volunteers at Hunter Park can expect a wide range of activities depending on current growing cycles and seasonal needs. This can include:
- Seed sorting and packaging
- Compost and mulch spreading
- Weeding
- Watering
- Harvesting
- Tool cleaning
- Planting
- Erecting signage

If you drive, parking is available at 500 Clifford St Lansing, MI 48912 directly in front of the GardenHouse on the east side of the park. If there is serious inclement weather, such as nearby lightning, any closures, cancellations, or delays will be communicated to group volunteer contacts as promptly as possible. We value everyone's safety so even if the event isn't canceled, please use your judgment about your ability to safely attend in the event of adverse weather!

RCAH alumni, MSU alumni, community members, significant others, friends... everyone is welcome to join us! If you have any questions, please email Sadie Shattuck (Community Engagement Chair for the RCAH Alumni Council) at smsadie19@gmail.com. Thank you!

Allen Neighborhood Center Accommodations

  • ANC provides all tools and supplies and just ask that volunteers wear comfortable clothing they don't mind getting dirty. We recommend wearing layers as we work rain or shine and all bets are off when it comes to Michigan weather. Masks are not required at the GardenHouse, but please don’t hesitate to let us know if one of your attendees would prefer staff to wear masks - we’re more than happy to. Drinking water will be available, but cups are limited so you may want to bring a reusable water bottle.

About Allen Neighborhood Center

Operated by Allen Neighborhood Center (ANC) and located within the City of Lansing’s Hunter Park, the GardenHouse and Edible Park serve as a demonstration site for year-round urban garden and farm education, and as a hub where neighbors volunteer to grow food, flowers, and community. The GardenHouse is a sustainably farmed greenhouse that grows produce for ANC’s Veggie Box Community Supported Agriculture program as well as its Breadbasket Food Pantry. Edible Park is a free-to-all, you-pick community garden and orchard serving Lansing’s Eastside with seasonal fresh food.
