Project Description
MSU University Advancement staff - During Spartans Serve Week, join your colleagues in a shift at the Greater Lansing Food Bank on Thursday, September 22 from 9 - 11 a.m. We'll be doing food sorting in the main warehouse - depending on needs that week, we'll pack boxes full of staple foods or produce for an upcoming food distributon or sort food or produce for future use.
With the gift of a little time, you can make a big difference. Together, with the thousands of volunteers who work with the food bank each year, you can be a crucial link between families and individuals in need and the nourishing food that will keep them going.
The shift begins promptly at 9 a.m., so plan to arrive by 8:55 a.m. to check-in.
Volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes and full-length shirts with sleeves - this is a food safety and general warehouse safety rule that we must follow. Work will be indoors.
This volunter opportunity if for MSU University Advancement staff only. If you're not a UA staff member, but interested in volunteering for the Greater Lansing Food Bank, check out their volunteer opprtunities at: greaterlansingfoodbank.volunteerlocal.com/volunteer.

About Greater Lansing Food Bank
The Greater Lansing Food Bank is a non-profit organization that provides emergency food to individuals and families in need throughout mid-Michigan in Clare, Clinton, Eaton, Gratiot, Ingham, Isabella and Shiawassee counties.
What do we do at Greater Lansing Food Bank (GLFB)?
We help feed our neighbors. We make certain that everyone in our community has access to nutritious food, because we can all agree, that no one should ever go hungry in our community.
Where does GLFB get food?
The food bank gets food from retailers, the USDA, food producers, purchased goods and from food drive donations.
Who do we serve?
Everyone at risk, because hunger does not discriminate. We provide emergency food to families and children and retirees and veterans who have served our country. We serve neighbors who look just like you and me. We help people to perform better at work and school and at home, because food is a basic need. Remember, that no one ever plans to be hungry.
