Project Description
Time: 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM (UPDATED TO 5 PM ARRIVAL)
For our bye week, we will again be volunteering at the San Antonio Zoo for their Zoo Boo event. All you have to do is show up, get assigned a station, and pass out candy for about 2 hours. Most stations do require standing but, we can accommodate a limited number of volunteers that need a seat. We usually take a group picture before we start, join us this year to be part of this fun and rewarding service project. You have the option of wearing your Spartan gear, a costume or anything that is child-friendly, nothing too scary!
Location: San Antonio Zoo Education Center
Important Notes:
- Standing in place is required, so wear appropriate footwear.
- Costumes are not required. If you want to dress up, please keep it kid-friendly or MSU gear.
- Meet us at 5:00 CST at the San Antonio Zoo Education Center Building (3903 N St Mary's St, San Antonio, TX 78212). Parking is free but can be a challenge during this popular event. There is limited parking in front of the Education Center. Parking near the Joske Pavilion is the next closest lot to the Education Center. Please plan ahead and arrive early to make the event enjoyable.
- Feel free to bring your own water bottles and sunscreen. We will take a group picture before we start! We should be done by 7:00 PM CST.
- The San Antonio Zoo Educational Building is about 200 yards from the front gate. Walk past the Kiddie Park on St. Mary's to get to the building. There is some limited parking available but, no guarantees. The Zoo also has a parking garage on Tuleta Street and a street lot available on St. Mary's Street with free parking.

About San Antonio Zoo
San Antonio Zoo kicks off Zoo Boo! Presented by Valero Benefit for Children, Saturday, September 17! The zoo’s annual Halloween celebration is a fun, non-scary daytime Halloween event for the entire family and will be offered daily through Monday, October 31.
Guests can start their day with a Halloween-inspired singalong as the San Antonio Zoo Train transforms into the Scarecrow Sing-a-long Express. The zoo transforms into multiple realms of Halloween fun, including Bubbling Seas, Dios de los Muertos, and more! Bubbling Seas is an underwater-themed realm complete with undersea decor any pirate or mermaid would love. The Dia de Los Muertos Realm will showcase vibrant décor and live entertainment like mariachis.
A day at Zoo Boo! Presented by Valero Benefit for Children is full of activities with Cowboy’s Dance Parties and Cowboy’s Scavenger Hunt. Using a kids map, children can find all the hidden Cowboy signs around the park and turn their map in for a prize. There will be a daily costume contest for all the little ghouls and goblins to join for a chance to win the official zoo prize pack. The entire family is encouraged to dress up in non-scary family-friendly costumes, but costume masks are only permitted for children 12 and under.
The Trick or Treating Hour provides the grand finale of each day with stations situated throughout the zoo. The zoo distributes only palm oil free candy. Palm oil production has been growing rapidly, producing negative effects on rain forests (particularly in Malaysia and Indonesia) and the species that live within them, such as orangutans.
