Project Description

Food Rescue is a program of Goodwill Northern Michigan.

Food Rescue's Repacking Volunteers help throughout the year to repack fresh and frozen produce at the Food Rescue warehouse, 2889 Aero Park Drive in Traverse City, just a block from Three Mile Road. This food, which is all either donated to Food Rescue or purchased by the Northwest Food Coalition, is received in bulk bins at the warehouse, and volunteers repack the food into family- and pantry-sized packages on Thursdays from 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

In addition to Thursday morning times, Food Rescue Spartan Community Volunteers are needed throughout the year and will receive upcoming volunteer day, date, time and location updates by email. Thank you!

Food Rescue’s Healthy Harvest volunteers glean excess produce from local farms and orchards when opportunities arise throughout the growing season.

About Goodwill Northern Michigan

Food Rescue is a program of Goodwill Northern Michigan.

Food Rescue does the logistical work of rescuing and distributing more than two million pounds of food a year to neighbors in need in Northwest Michigan. We collect soon-to-expire, fresh, nutritious food, and distribute it to area food pantries and community meal sites on the same day, at no cost to the pantries. We also function as a regional food hub, collaborating with the Northwest Food Coalition and other community partners to purchase food in bulk and distribute it across the region.
