Project Description

Come help us process and clean up donated books at the Children’s Book Bank through SMART Reading. They have TONS of books that have been donated by the community and need help inspecting, cleaning and repairing them up to get them ready to give to children to use and love. No experience is necessary.

The Children’s Book Bank mission is to advance child literacy, encourage family bonding, and ignite curiosity through the power of books. The Children’s Book Bank narrows the book gap by providing the community with a place for families to donate the books their children have outgrown, moving thousands and thousands of children’s books into the hands of kids that need them.

Be sure to wear your Spartan Gear!

About The Children's Book Bank at SMART Reading

Mission

Our mission is to advance child literacy, encourage family bonding, and ignite curiosity through the power of books.

Vision

A community where all children have equal opportunity to succeed as future readers and learners

Values

Equity: We acknowledge the historical and present-day injustices that impact marginalized communities. To help dismantle systems of oppression and injustice, we strive to make decisions through an equity lens to ensure every child owns a collection of quality books.

Education: We celebrate the unique period in young children's development when language and literacy acquisition are foundational to a life of learning.

Inclusivity: We?elevate books in which children see themselves and their community meaningfully represented. Inclusive representation creates opportunities for children to expand their world and envision a future of possibilities.

Community: We listen to our community in a collective effort to continuously evolve and better meet the needs of those we serve.

Empathy:?We cultivate empathy, honor differences, and engender compassion through a shared love of reading.

Respect: We foster teamwork, show appreciation, and treat all people with dignity and respect.

Sustainability: We prioritize restoring and rehoming beloved books to create a sustainable future for children and the environment.
