Project Description

In collaboration with the Spartan Food Security Council and the Center for Community Engaged Learning, the Sophomore Class Council is hosting a 5K race on Saturday, April 12.  

Volunteers will be assisting with tasks like: 
• guiding runners,
• Helping take in the donations from the participants
• handing out refreshments,
• course setup and marshaling
• timekeeping
• supporting registration and finish line operations, and
• ensuring a smooth and positive experience for participants.

The volunteers should be at People’s Park (between the International Center and Wells Hall by 9:40am.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Check-In
All volunteers must register/check-in at the Spartan Days of Service kick-off event held in the Business College Complex, Room N130.  After the short program, race organizors will meet with the project volunteers and escort them to their volunteer location.

Meals & T-Shirts
During check-in and the program a light breakfast will be available to all volunteers.  Prior to departure, volunteers can select a box lunch, and will receive a Spartan Days of Service t-shirt.  Vegan and gluten free options will be available.

9:00 a.m. – Welcome & Program 
9:15 a.m. - Lunches & T-Shirts

    All volunteers are expected to view the “Spartans Volunteer-Preparing students for lifelong civic and social responsibility” module on D2L. The link to the course is included above and should take you approximately 10 minutes to complete.

What the Race is For
The Spartan Victory Lap 5k is a Run/Walk/Roll event with free entry. The only “fee” we charge is bringing at least one item on the MSU Student Food Bank’s “highly needed” list.
The Spartan Food Security Council fights food insecurity on Michigan State's campus and in the East Lansing community. As a student-led organization, they work to advocate for legislative changes to support students facing food insecurity.

General Description
Join the Sophomore Class at Michigan State University for a 5k on April 12th to support the Spartan Food Security Council on campus, in collaboration with the Community Center for Engaged Learning. This is a FREE event and donations are WELCOME, especially in the form of nonperishable items!

The Spartan Food Security Council fights food insecurity on Michigan State's campus and in the East Lansing community. As a student-led organization, they work to advocate for legislative changes to support students facing food insecurity.

This race will start and finish at People's Park, which is located in between Wells Hall and the International Center. There is plenty of parking in nearby lots on campus such as Lot 39, Lot 62, and Lot 79.

T-shirt pickup and check-in will take place at the Start Line beginning at 8:30 AM the day of the 5k. There are limited t-shirts available, and will be distributed on a strict first-come, first-serve basis.
