Project Description

Calling all Spartans — alumni, students, families, and friends! You’re invited to get your hands dirty and your heart full by volunteering at Grow Benzie— a Rural Prosperity Incubator located in the heart of Benzie County with outreach and service to all of the Northwest Michigan region. Just like the Spartan spirit, we believe in bold community impact, meaningful connections, and making every effort count.

Our four-acre campus thrives from April to October with opportunities for you to dig in—literally—and help grow a more vibrant, resilient community. From beautifying our community garden to maintaining our edible trails, from tending hoop houses to prepping for community events, we’ve got plenty of ways to get involved.

Grow Benzie Volunteer Activities Include:

  • Community garden prep, weeding, planting, or harvesting

  • Edible trail & pollinator garden care

  • Hoop house maintenance

  • Light campus beautification projects

  • Event support and setup

  • Seasonal projects with our youth and garden guilds

Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just want to help where needed, we welcome all skill levels and ages! We are especially open to folks who have a particular interest or skillset as we are often able to match special projects when we know about it in advance!

Timing & Commitment

We welcome volunteers year-round, but April–October is when the magic happens most on our campus. Sign up solo or bring your Spartan squad!

Scheduled volunteer work windows in 2025 are below, but we are happy to work with individuals or groups if another time frame works better for you throughout the year!

April: Tuesday 12 - 4pm, Wednesday 12 - 4pm

May: Tuesday 12 - 4pm Wednesday 4 - 7pm & Friday 10am - 2pm and Saturday, May 10th from 10am - 2pm
