Ann Arbor Spartans Avalon Housing September Volunteer Opportunity

Project Description

Support Avalon Housing through a Property Beautification Day! Join our grounds team on a clean up day at one of our many supportive, affordable housing properties. You can help us beautify our properties with seasonal clean up, planting, and weeding.

Want to double your impact from a Property Beautification Day? Consider purchasing native plants or making a restricted gift to support beautifying our properties! To donate native plants, please contact John Slowey, Avalon’s Senior Groundskeeper, to learn about which native plants are needed at jslowey@avalonhousing.org.

Volunteers must be a minimum of 15 years old with an adult chaperone if under 18 years old. Volunteers may need to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.

Additional Details:

• You can meet us at Carrot Way (32 Carrot Way, Ann Arbor, MI 48105).
• You can park in the Carrot Way parking lot or along the street (the one heading into Carrot Way and Food Gatherers).
• Please don't park in the Food Gatherers parking lot (1 Carrot Way) or at the church across Dhu Varren (Ann Arbor Chinese Christian Church, 1750 Dhu Varren Rd).
• We often have limited parking available for larger groups of guests at our properties, so if members of your group are able to carpool we’d appreciate it please.
• We will start with a brief introduction to Avalon, take a group photo, and then turn you over to our groundskeepers!
• Please wear closed-toed shoes and clothes that cover your arms and legs and that you do not mind getting dirty in since you will be doing yard work.
• Participants are more than welcome to bring their own gloves and tools if they would like, but we'll have gloves and tools provided for everyone.
