Project Description

Join West Michigan Spartans as we host a virtual meetup from 3-5 p.m. on 4/17 where volunteers can complete one of two different volunteer projects (or do both)!

Project #1: Make a Veteran Smile

Cheer up a Michigan veteran and show your appreciation for their service by writing and sending a letter, card or picture, or recording a video so they know they're thought of during this difficult time. Once compete, videos can be sent to: DMVA-MIVeteranHomes@michigan.gov, and mail can be sent to: Grand Rapids Home for Veterans, 3000 Monroe Ave. NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505, ATTN: Letters for Vets. Please note, videos may be shared on MVAA's public Facebook page.

Project #2: Prepare Suppers Packs for Kids' Food Basket

Purchase supplies and prepare supper packs from one of the two supply lists below, and secure one of each item in a quart-size zipper-lock bag.  Once complete, packs should be dropped off at the Kids' Food Basket Kent County location (1300 Plymouth NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505) Tuesdays from 3–5 p.m. or Fridays from 9-11 a.m. If these times do not work for you, contact Kelly at krholls@gmail.com to arrange for alternative drop off location and time.

Supper Pack #1 Supply List

  • Pudding Cup
  • Fruit Cup or Pouch (no foil tops please)
  • Small Raisin Box
  • Two .28oz Meat Sticks
  • Quart-size Bag

Supper Pack #2 Supply List

  • Pudding Cup
  • Fruit Strip
  • Pretzel or Cheez-It Bag (1.5 oz or smaller)
  • Two .28oz Meat Sticks
  • Quart-size Bag

To ensure each child is receiving the same meal, Kids' Food Basket asks that you make no substitutions to the food items on the supply list and that each supper pack is fully complete with all four items.

Additional Activity: Decorate sack supper bags and include them with your supper packs. Brown or white 6 or 8 lb. bags work best (size is 6” wide X 11-12” tall). Note: please do not place supper packs in the decorated bags; Kids' Food Basket will complete this step.
