9 of 100 volunteers have pledged their time

Project Description

THIS IS AN ONGOING SERVICE EVENT/VOLUNTEER ACTIVITY. FAME is a resource center for foster youth alumni attending MSU as well as for youth who were in kinship care, have experienced homelessness, or are otherwise independent. FAME exists to provide support and resources to these students during their time at MSU to help them be successful during their collegiate experience on MSU's campus and during their transition to becoming MSU alumni. You can also read more about FAME here: https://fame.socialwork.msu.edu/ A specific way that YOU can support FAME is by becoming a mentor for a FAME student. A mentor is seen as an emotional/social/academic and career based support person who meets with the student throughout each month. Mentors and students meet on or off campus during the school year. They are invited to attend various FAME events together and can make their own schedule as to when they meet. Some requirements of our mentors include: - Must have a bachelor's degree - Must be available 4 hours a month to meet with student - Must complete the following: application/reference checks, background checks and mandatory trainings The mentor program is open to new volunteers year-round. We are currently recruiting new mentors to be matched with our incoming freshman at the start of the Fall 2019 semester. Please contact Ashley Hayden, Mentor Specialist, at haydenas@msu.edu if you are interested in learning more about mentoring.
