Birthday Cake Kits for Homeless Children

Family Promise of Greene County, OH provides shelter, meals, supportive services, and educational opportunities for homeless families with children. As parents and guardians are working hard and saving money to regain housing, it can be difficult for them to afford extra expenses associated with children’s birthdays.

To help ensure each child has a special treat on their birthday, the MSU Alumni Club of Dayton wants to collect birthday cake kits donated by local Spartans to give Family Promise of Greene County.

Each birthday cake kit donation should contain:

• 1 boxed cake mix
• 1 container of frosting
• Disposable rectangular cake pan
• 1 12 oz. can of pop (Note: Pop can be used a replacement for eggs with boxed cake mix)
  • Get creative – consider a vanilla cake mix with a can of lemon-lime or orange soda or a chocolate cake mix with a can or cola!
• Birthday candles.

Local Spartans are asked to gather materials for their birthday cake kit donations from now until September 10th. Spartans can either collect the above items for a B-Day Kit, or send $10 to cover the costs of one kit. Contact Stephanie Hines at sj.hines@hotmail.com for more info.

We will be assembling the Birthday Cake Kits at the Spartan Game watch September 10th at TJ Chumps in Fairborn at 4pm.

About Family Promise Greene County

Family Promise is a local shelter and resource in Greene County, Ohio. Family Promise gives parents the hope, encouragement, and connections to give their kids a brighter future without the fear of displacement or homelessness. 

This project focuses on kid's Birthdays! We are asking that our Dayton Spartans either prepare Birthday Kits or donate money towards a Birthday Kit. Birthday Kits will be collected at the Game Watch at TJ Chumps on Saturday, Sep 10th at 4pm. If you would like to give a donation towards a Birthday Kit instead, the cost estimate for one kit is $10. Club officers will then purchase the items for the kit.
