Project Description

Kids wrote Sparty challenging alumni to support an animal rescue organization. The Mid-Michigan Spartans have identified the local non-profit, Constellation Cat Cafe, as an ideal organization to support with volunteer time and donated supplies. This project has multiple ways to participate. Whether it's cleaning the cat room, assisting with kitty laundry, collecting donated supplies dropped off during the event or providing the donated supplies - your participation matters and will contribute to Sparty's ability to honor kids' project request.

The following volunteer categories are available in the sign-up area: (please review requirements carefully)

  • 10 adults (must be 18+) are needed to clean the cat room with veterinary grade cleaner. The cats will be in the space with you, so it's an adventure. Grubby clothes are recommened. The cleaner has a bleaching agent that can discolor fabrics. Those sensitive to strong scents may wish to wear a mask. There is a strict checklist for cleaning that Constellation Cat Cafe must follow. Volunteers may need to help move cat stands, cat furniture and human furniture in the space to achieve a thorough cleaning. Nothing is overly heavy.
  • 2 adults (must be 18+) are needed to collect the cafe's laundry, transport it to the laundromat around the corner, launder the items and return the laundry - dry - by the end of the event. The expense of the laundering will be covered by the Mid-Michigan Spartans. Volunteers for the role are welcome to go between the cafe and the laundromat while waiting for washers and dryers to finish.
  • 2 individuals are needed to assist with receiving donated items at a table on the sidewalk in front of the cafe. Assisting with organizing received goods and completing donation receipts are the two main functions. Volunteers may need to lift large cat litter containers and cat food containers. Weight of the items depend on what contributors purchase.
  • 2 adults (must be 18+) are needed to assist with traffic flow in the parking lot in the event multiple individuals are attempting to drop off donated supplies at one time. Those donating supplies are welcome to visit the cafe during the event. They will not be able to visit the cat room while it's being cleaned.
  • Several individuals are needed to commit to dropping of donated goods between 6-8 p.m. The listed of needed items may grow as the date for the event approaches. Please honor the specific brands and product versions requested by Constellation Cat Cafe. Consistency with products is helpful to the organization. Constellation will share these supplies with their partner rescue groups.

Though we don't have a means to sign younger children up for this experience, the Mid-Michigan Spartans could use the assistance of 2-4 children who are interested in coloring Sparty's Kind Kids thank you pictures and decorating them with Constellation Cat Cafe stickers during the first hour of the event. These pictures will be given to those dropping off donated goods and to those volunteering in other roles for the project. Children must have a parent present at all times. Please contact the Mid-Michigan Spartans directly if you and your child(ren) are interested. We will update this post to note when these slots are full.
